I had a fascination with the world around me ever since I can remember. I grew up in a community where everyone around me was working together for the greater good, and I couldn’t be more excited to volunteer with them. I started volunteering in primary school where we went on supply distribution expeditions for the homeless, which I continued throughout high school. After high school, I pursued a degree in biology at the University of Toronto, volunteered in hospitals, and assisted with research projects. It only made sense to go to medical school. It was not easy but I persevered through it and got a job as a telemedicine assistant. I enjoy staying active outdoors and exploring new places.

Hi! My name is Sarah Powell and I’m from Houma, Louisiana. Before attending AUC, I received my Bachelor’s in Biology from LSU and my Master’s in Medical Science from Mississippi College. I always played sports growing up, especially soccer, but now my study breaks mostly consist of Netflix or reading historical fiction. At AUC, I was a founding board member of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Interest Group; OBGYN is my dream specialty. My goal is to bring affordable health care and education to women across the south and to participate in forming policies that support this mission.

My name is Randee Walck, and I’m from Shawnee, Oklahoma. I graduated with a Bachelor’s in International Studies from the University of Oklahoma. I started at AUC after a year of traveling. My passions in medicine are global health and primary care, so I’m hoping to Match into Family Medicine or OBGYN. While in St. Maarten, I was a member of the Global Health Interest Group and Phi Chi. This school is very close to my heart because I met my husband on the island, and I’ve made some lifelong friends through the course of Hurricane Irma and time since. I enjoy writing, reading, and yoga. And of course, I love cuddles with the cutest puppy in the world, Baxter.

Sarah Norman

Hi fellow readers! My name is Sarah and I am a second year medical student at AUC. I have lived most of my life in the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois but recently moved to SXM with my husband in August 2020. I received my undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry in May 2018, and have work experience in the clinical research field as well as the field of patient care. I was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant for 4 years at two different hospitals and a senior living center; I also worked for a pharmaceutical/nutritional international research corporation. I have always enjoyed writing, and am hoping to bring my current and past experiences together to write (and edit) memorable articles describing the obstacles medical students face while receiving an education during a pandemic.

Greetings readers! My name is Olivia Warren. I am an enthusiast for traveling, reading, teaching and an occasional good crossword puzzle. I am a proud New Yorker, but grew up in Florida. The University of Central Florida granted me with many opportunities during my undergraduate years that I am forever grateful for. My past experiences, people I have had the pleasure of speaking to, places I have traveled, all have influenced my passion for writing. I still have many curiosities about what field of medicine suits me best, but I am a firm believer that I will end up where I am meant to be. For now, keep on keeping on.
